ii. Piano roll

The Piano Roll is a representation of the sequencer where you have the ability to create complex melodies from a particular channel. If you’re recording with an external MIDI controller, it’s also where all the notes are recorded and represented. Along the left of the piano roll is a set of keys where the higher you go along the vertical axis, the higher the pitch of the note. The horizontal axis represents time and each bar is numbered at the top. You can zoom into this grid, using the (insert pic) button (on the top-right of the window) for more complex melodies or simply for precision editing. In this grid is where notes are represented by horizontal bars, whose length indicates how long the note should hold for. Similar to the step sequencer, notes can be drawn by left clicking and deleted by right clicking. Sounds can be auditioned by clicking their respective keys and there are a number of tools and editing options along the top-left of the window. More information on the Piano Roll can be obtained through the FL Studio reference manual.
