e. Speakers/Monitors

In terms of speakers for your setup, while regular computer speakers will do the job, a better option would be a decent pair of bookshelf speakers or headphones. An even better upgrade path for more clarity while mixing and sound monitoring, is a pair of powered near-field stereo monitors. You will be doing a lot of mixing, and key to developing a good ear and a good mix is, at the very least, a decent pair of speakers. If you have the money to spend, one of the more essential pieces in your bedroom/basement studio is a pair of monitors. M-Audio Studiophile BX5 is a good pair to start off with but the best way to find out is by trying them out at your local music store. Bring a music CD to the local store and ask if you could demo some of their stereo monitors. It all comes down to preference, and of course, your budget.
